ESCAPE
Styling & visual narrative
Escape explores the pressures imposed by contemporary media on individuals—particularly women—to conform to unattainable ideals of beauty, body image, and consumer perfection. This speculative styling project visualises the paradox of ‘escaping’ these societal expectations while simultaneously being trapped within them. The central piece of the project, the Escape Garment, is deliberately restrictive—physically embodying the weight of media-driven pressures. Asymmetrically distributed weights symbolise the societal burden of fitness culture and the expectation to sculpt the ‘perfect’ body. The layered black suits, arranged in an intentionally imperfect way, critique the obsession with symmetry and curated self-presentation. A bag crafted from plastic materials highlights consumerist ignorance toward sustainability, while its handle—made from measuring tape—references the fixation on body measurements and numerical validation.
